California in Carolina

This east meets west post is long overdue because it is a party I created back in August for my little sister, Ashley!  A small family gathering in my NC home celebrated both her birthday & “going away,” as she was preparing for her first college semester.  Our family had just returned from a trip to LA, so I thought a California / Travel theme was perfect!  Ashley loves pastels like light pink, baby blue, & pale yellow – a palette that complimented the theme & gave it a vintage vibe.  This was a budget party so I used a lot of what I already had on hand & re-purposed decor from prior events.

Party games fill the suitcase (below): a birthday madlib about Ashley & a post card with space to write 1st year college advice.  We had a fun time reading everything out loud!

Our dad, who grew up in LA, always talks about mouth-watering doughnuts he enjoyed as a child…so that was my inspiration for this place setting treat!

I used a California Carnival as the inspiration for the food shelf: Pineapple & cream in the cups; Kettle corn in the embellished bags; Root beer wrapped in stenciled paper; & Waffle fries in the cones.

A wall collage to set the scene…

Love decorating with old suitcases!

The birthday/college bound girl enjoying the spotlight…

Ashley also inherited the creative gene, & she recently helped me with a fun little promo video that will be posted once my official website is finished! Can’t WAIT to share it on here as well.
